Midday wanderings weren't exactly the safest of ideas when the land around you was a feral place. However, four previous years of experience were sitting on his shoulders and his fear was well hidden. Elijah's nose kept twitching as he kept himself busy tracking whatever was in the air. This area of Genesis was full of packs and wolves alike. He wanted to nervously take off in a run but so far there had been no signs of any of those pack dogs. Perhaps he was safe. Taking chances were not in his plans though. The lanky male kept himself towards the edge if possible but there was eventually going to be a necessity he could not resist.
The cotton texture in his mouth was unbearable and water had to be around the area. The only water he had seen was deeper into the territory which had the loner waiting out at all costs. 'Perhaps I could just get in and get enough to wet my palate. That wouldn't be so bad, would it?' Th canine stopped in his tracks, eyes locked on a small puddle that would've had just enough to get him what he wanted. Eli found himself wandering forward before thoughts could sink in. He was so thirsty that he just couldn't take it anymore. In a mess of splashing water and ravenous lapping, he drank.
And drank.
And drank.
Relief overrode his alertness to his surroundings which was a poor choice considering he now stood very clearly in West Side territory.

Mariah scented a male in West Side territory and immediately threw her grey and brown furry mane up to howl. After she howled deeply she ran down the Warehouse stairs and ran out the door with her long, swift legs. She snarled but he was a charming dog. She snapped out of her gaze on the intruder and said "What brings you hear, loner? West Side is strict about intruders." She smirked but he was such a handsome dog. She tried to clear her throat and turn her head away but she stopped herself from being rude and kept her hazel eyes on him.
She was extra clean from the river in the back of the Hotel and her fur was long, silky and shiny. Her ears were perked up onto the dogs sound and her one left front paw was up in a hunting stance, but that is what she did when she was curious. Her eyes stood on this dog but her body was going to the side.
It was a nice night The sunset was going down in a bright orange color and red hit in the back of the clouds and the buildings were painted orange as well with the lights. Mariah's side was painted orange as well and Mariah quite liked the orange. It feels warm and cool at the same time.

His thirst was quenched though he couldn't help enjoying a few extra gulps. The water dripped from his muzzle and left his fur soaked. It was only when he heard the howl did he find himself startled out of his moment. Elijah was caught in a moment of panic instead of thoughtful consideration on his tactics. There wasn't much chance considering the one that had caught him was far swifter than he could ever be. When addressed as loner, Eli's eyes snapped up to be met with the arrival of the she-dog.
"I, uh," he stammered, lost for words. She was a wild dog? How silly it felt to be looking over her with embarrassment filling up in him quickly. If only he hadn't drank so much! His stomach felt full and running would not be an option. Still, running from her did not seem like the response he wanted to take. Elijah found his courage once his nerves had settled and stood straight again, still struck for proper words. "I apologize for intruding. I had not meant to bring trouble or harm my way, miss." She had changed from standing and giving him a sharp gaze to almost creeping, hunting him down. The way this she-dog was lit up in orange and reds, she might have been a truly beautiful sight had Eli not found himself trying to avert his gaze quickly.
Clearing his throat, he continued on. "My name is Elijah and I had a very dire thirst. I came to drink quickly and then take my leave. If I disturbed the peace, I wish to apologize." Eli's eyes were back on her, body moving into a relaxed stance in hopes of keeping the situation calm. The last thing he wanted was for her to see him as an aggressive male looking to fight. Ears went back and head lowered slightly but eyes were locked on her, amazed and frightened all at once.

Mariah was in space with his eyes until he said he would leave "No it is fine. You can drink on." She smiled and sat down for a couple of minutes. She looked back at him once again and smiled cutely. "So, what is a dog like you on a territory like this. She smiled and looked behind her at Bullet's territory.

She had just let him go! Stunned was the first reaction that was seen but Eli managed to shake his head and wet muzzle to clear out the shock. This was not the time to be questioning and causing more trouble than it was all worth. The lanky mutt sat down as well to follow her lead. She was truly a pretty little thing, though little wasn't the right word either. Something about her said she was not totally the dog she may have seemed but rather carried an exotic twist to her. She was a wild dog, the things out of tales and such. Eli could remember hearing the tales of the wild dogs from his mother as a pup and how they were shown to be killers and vicious hunters. She was not.
No, this female was pretty and her smile had him fidgeting again. What was getting to him? Perhaps he hadn't been in female contact in so long or rather any contact at all. Besides, he had just been dehydrated. Maybe it went to his brain? He didn't want to think that he was looking at her in awe. She spoke again which snapped Elijah from his trance. She was good about catching him in the moments when he was lost in thought. "Me? I'm just a roamer, really. Crossing territories isn't new for me. I'm just usually quick enough to avoid capture though. I have to say, you're quite fast, miss..."
His words trailed off with a slight chuckle. "I'm sorry, I don't believe I ever caught your name." Damn, he was looking back at her eyes again. He would have to stop that before she caught on and had him thrown aside from the territory rather than safe in her presence. That might've been harder to do though than saying it ever made it seem.

Mariah smiled and blushed a bit but good thing they were in the darkness of the shade of the Warehouse because she was crossing her front legs too. "Oh. I used to be a roamer until Bullet took me in. West Side dogs range from all personalities." She smiled and uncrossed her paws before he saw her. She noticed he was doing the same thing, when getting lost into her eyes.
Mariah smiled at his gaze and said "Oh, my bad. My name is Mariah and I am the nanny of West Side pack puppies. And Elijah is a cute name. Fits a dog like you well." She smiled and trotted closer to him. She wagged her tail but it wagged harder and harder every moment they met eyes.
The sun went down and darkness hit Genesis. The buildings were pitch black and the sky was all black and clouds covered it. It was a windy night and Mariah felt bad for him to be out here in the cold night. "Do you want to go into the Warehouse? It's getting awful cold out here and I hate it." She smiled and scowled at the wind that blew her way.

Mariah.
That name was ringing through his mind after she said it. Some part of Elijah's head couldn't comprehend that this silky divine would be a loner to the streets as him. Something about her just seemed to be far too regal for the dirty life of a loner. She looked so well for a wild dog at all and that was being made obvious by his dazed staring. He listened to her voice, took in her words with a wag of his tail and a prick of his ears. What was wrong with him? It was just continuing on and on. 'Mariah, Mariah, Mariah...' Would it ever get out of his head?
Time was faster than his own realization as he was stunned to find the sun was now bleeding heavily in the skies. A grand finale. It would be high time for the dogs of Genesis to be turning in for the night, as Elijah normally would had he not been caught by this female. His short coat did not make the windy weather any easier and he shifted on his paws in hopes of avoiding any cold chills that would've been noticed by Mariah.
'Mariah, Mariah, Mariah...'
Then she smiled at him again.
"Do you want to go into the Warehouse? It's getting awful cold out here and I hate it."
At least she had noticed it too. Elijah glanced behind her to where the Warehouse stod, a loming figure of hauntedness and yet homeliness. Dare he go? Hook. The mutt raised his ears slowly and curiously looked towards Mariah. "The warehouse? Are you sure? I'm not one of your pack, Mariah. Would others be alright with this? I mean, I don't wish to intrude on you or the others if I was to arrive so unexpectedly." He mentally cursed himself for not just accepting. Walking close to the female would've made his night. Line. What was wrong him with? Caught now staring at her, unable to draw his eyes away from her own beautiful orbs for once. Maybe he was delirious from the lack of sleep or something had infected his water. No way was he going to admit infatuation was taking him over so soon.
Not aloud, anyways.
Sinker.

Mariah put her ears down in a normal way and her heart fell to the ground and blew in the wind. She was dramatic, yes, but her heart hurt and she wanted him to just he alright and come in with her, just for a night. "Actually Bullet, my Leader, is taking his mate out of the country for a date thing." She smiled and her heart started to pump a bit faster. She smiled widely and motioned him to follow her into the section with many boxes and she led him to one that he can sleep in.
"Well you can sleep here and there is some food inside and I will be across from you." She smiled and crawled to the box across from him. She spun a couple of times before laying down and putting her ears low, in her sleepy position. Her fur rested on the soft, cozy, warm blanket on the box and her Hazel eyes shut. Some times she would open an eye, just to look at Elijah.

((SO sorry on the wait!! Been busy but I'm back and free again.)) This was an opportunity he couldn't miss. The alpha was gone, not here to question a stranger on his land, and Mariah was free too. Was it wrong that his heart fluttered some in excitement? Maybe but he didn't question it. Eli didn't speak, merely kept close to her steps when she lead him towards the warehouse. He could smell all the other scents of canines that lived here. Pups, which lingered on Mariah's fur, and dogs he had never smelled before. There was also so many other things and some how it was sinking down into him. He knew he could get used to this.
Elijah followed where she motioned to, a box that indeed have food and protection from the world around them. He didn't speak, just watched when she walked away rom him and left Elijah to his things. Some how, hunger didn't come to him and tiredness didn't either. He had to force himself to lie down politely, carefully tucking his legs under him. The way he was lying, he could get a good view on Mariah if he peeked carefully. Still, nothing came to him. She was just lying there, peeking back at him every now and then which he caught. She wasn't leaving his mind and his paws felt like twitching, urged to move. 'Easy now, Elijah. It would be rude.' Resisting was futile when it welled up in him.
It was too much eventually and the mutt stood up, pulling himself out of his box and wandering over to hers. He kept his ears pinned back to hide how red they were. Perhaps it was only stupidity that lead him on but he laid down in front of her, head turning to rest near hears. His eyes would not meet hers this time, almost afraid she would cast him away for how forward he was being. He would take the hard floor though over the warm box if it meant the distance was closed between them.

Mariah smiled as he plopped down in front of her and s cute little grin escaped her mouth. She did a little girl giggle and licked his cheek sweetly. She crawled up next to him and set her head against his and did a satisfactory sigh. She was crushing on him and she thought he liked her too. He couldn't leave her mind and she knew that was the same for him because they kept glancing at each other and giving smiles to each other.
Mariah always wished for a mate/lover and was always so jealous of Bullet and his puppies. Kalani was her favorite female and she was so sweet and easy to car for. Mariah was now the lead nanny and Kalani worked along side her but maybe Mariah would have pups of her own. One day. It would be possible.

Elijah was happily shocked when she giggled and licked his cheek. Having her close, and approving of it, had his heart racing for many reasons. One was that he had managed to get close to her. Second though was the fearful exhilieration of how sudden this had all been. They had only just met! Perhaps he could convince her on an outing, a chance to enjoy an afternoon together or something so that he could know her better. That only seemed fair to her and himself. She showed heavy interest in him and his own actions said so right back.
The mutt closed his eyes, finding that her warm body against his own made sleep come better. Except he couldn't help whispering something low in her ear, curious before he would let sleep grasp him. "Mariah, how about you and I do something together? Tomorrow, maybe. You and me." He breathed in her scent, one he wished could infuse itself into his fur and mark him as hers in a way. Elijah had to get his mind off of that stuff before he pushed this all too fast. He didn't even know if she wanted to move something so new that quickly. Instead, he pressed his nose against her fur, settling for curling closer against her in nervous waiting for the reply.

Mariah giggled and smiled. She turned towards him and said "Of course. See you tomorrow then." She smiled and sighed to herself. She thought of so many things that could happen tomorrow.
Mariah got up and climbed on top of the box to go to sleep again.
